DIY Railing Sneak Peek

I'm back with another #dorseyreno update! You may have seen on Instagram that David recently purchased a welder and taught himself how to weld.

I'm always amazed at his willingness and ability to learn new things! He's welded a little with his friend that works on cars, so he picked up the basics there, but he did the this railing entirely himself! It looks amazing close up!

This was just a test fit, before painting. The steel would require a lot of work to look good naturally - plus we like the idea of the white paint making the railing fade into the background - and keep things as light as possible.

Total cost for the steel (for the other railing too) was around $300 something - paying someone to do it would be around $6,000. So a pretty good savings!

That's it for today :) I have a busy week coming up, so I'll be away for a little, but look for a first look of my office soon (sneak peek here!)

Here's a mini before and after - it lets in SO much more light!

  4. Ooooh he just taught himself to weld, just like that. And that's when my husband will get mad because I'd like to compare him to a guy like your husband. ;)
Yup like Cassie said, you guys are amazing.

  5. Wow! What a difference! I have been reading your blog for awhile but I think this is the first time I've commented. I love your taste, your style, your Friday Five, your love of big patterns and your tedious projects (my favorite is your circular accordion mirror- whatever it was you called it).

I actually really like the contrast and vote you paint it black. If you google white railing vs. black railing images, the black ones are easier to see through... but maybe that is just with outdoor deck railings. I'll reserve judgment on the white railing until I see it because you are amazing. (I sure hope this doesn't post 3 times because I had issues getting it to post).
